Comic Manga Book: Chikyu Misaki

I want to make a comic like this one!

Chikyu Misaki: I love this comic. It’s like the cutest, neatest, fun thing I’ve read in a long time. I’d originally bought this book in Japanese at a Kinokuniya book store and loved the art and what little of the story that I could figure out. But my Japanese language reading is not that great so when I found out that CMX was bring it over in English I was really happy. After reading it I’m all pleased to report that it is just as good as I thought it would be from what I could understand of the Japanese volume. The really good thing is that unlike most manga that goes on forever this comic is only 3 volumes long. So it won’t hurt the budget to collect it. Also did I mention it’s deathly cute? Awwwww. For a sample of the art in the book please look at this guys site that sadly says that Iwahara Yuji’s web site is down… =(

Another interesting thing about this manga from an artist point of view is that there is almost no screen tone in this and that gives it a really interesting feel… and Wolverine totally shows up in it. =D

Video Game: Shadow of the Colossus

Here’s a video game that I’ve been enjoying.

Shadow of the Colossus:You’re a tiny dude on a horse with a cool sword. Find about a dozen giant walking Aztecy looking giant-like things and stab them in their glowing ruin area. No! My area! Blood really spurts as you knife them.

This is a really pretty game and I’ve been watching Mike play it. He says the controls take some getting use to but that they make a lot of sense once you’ve got them down. Not a game for action junkies who like constant fights. There are only boss battles in this game so far but it’s still really neat all around. You have to climb the giants like scenery. =D It’s really cool.

Movies: Kung Fu Hustle

I have the hardest time posting about things that I like so instead of pondering about it I’ll just post some very simple reviews and suggestions. I’ll try not to concern myself with over thinking these so they will get posted. This is for stuff that I like and think you guys should watch, buy, or borrow. =]

Here is a movie!

Kung Fu Hustle: I enjoyed this film and I was never bored nor did I cringe at any part. I loved the slapstick cartoony fighting and the fact that yes indeed people died. Also I liked that the characters have weight and they get tossed about and you can feel the impact when they hit things.

There are also martial arts with music instruments! You can’t go wrong with that! And deadly cobras!

Woot! Yay! So check that one out if you want. =D

It’s now Mike’s turn to draw a few pages for this issue. He did all the art and toning on this whole flash back with Bunny recounting her adventure alone in the store. Unlike the first issue, Mike did everything here with his own section and all of the toning even on my pages until I think about page 14 of this issue when I take over with the toning.

I love the totem security plant thingy. I think it needs to show back up at some point.

Heh heh, speaking of Saiko and Lavender stuff. Mike just finished a new script for me to draw. So, I’m doing new pages of Saiko and Lavender. I changed their character designs and you can see a preview of what they look like here: http://www.livejournal.com/users/amegoddess/95582.html if you missed them.

I was sick when I drew this. This always happens to me I’ll be all artist blocked for days and days and as soon as I feel like crap and all I want is to sleep then the ideas for stuff cram themselves into my head. Until I’m full of snot and death and 6 billion ideas most of them terrible.

Then when I’m better I can’t remember any of the ideas right. Cycle, cycle, it’s a cycle.

New Saiko and Lavender designs

For the new comic, there is new designs! They look all cute like this!

Saiko and Lavender new designs

Now I’m working on the designs for Cloe (the hula goth girl returns), a toad dude, and the store. Wiggles arms to bed. -_-

Comic progress

My Muse: 12 pages inked… all of my new ideas seem like bad ideas… I’ll probably do them anyway. Don’t throw rocks at me later please. =(

New Saiko and Lavender: 1 page inked, script finished. New designs for the main characters are much more toon like and in the bendy style of the My Muse characters. I’ll post them after I add color.

Now I may sleep and get up and draw some more. I hope that we’ll get to see a Wacom Cintiq on Saturday when we take a trip down to LA. That would be awesome. Even if the Cintiq cost about as much as a new computer or a used car. I want to use one and feel what they’re like.

I dislike those raisin granola bars… I always seemed to get them at every summer camp I ever went to because they are considered “healthy.” Sigh. I’d sort of like the chocolate chip ones if they didn’t have all that granola.

There is a tiny pirate stabbing the granola bar in panel 3 and he disappears in panel 4 with a “poit” sound effect. There was a joke involving them that got lost somewhere in the issue so my snub to it is to have them show up and disappear in the most obvious fashion. LOL, sadly no one has ever asked about them.

Oh! The granola bar in Pane 3 says Fubar on it. Which sums up my feelings on granola and the silly idea that Fubar is a really good sort of name for a granola brand name. =D

Once more the internet is my bane. This time though it’s not just me. I’m pretty much running these comics in the order that I made then in. I’m not sure if it’s the best order but it seems right to me.

Last time I checked Deviant art I had 2,000 messages, which was almost all Deviant watches that I still haven’t looked at. I just had to delete them last time, which made me sad but had to be done… that reminds me I need to update my gallery on there.

Alpha Rants are these rants done by the neat guys that do a continuing webcomic called Alpha-shade. They showed up at A-kon this year with a really pretty color graphic novel of their webcomic. Nice stuff. I like to listen to them ranting while I work because they’re pretty entertaining. =D

In the fourth panel there’s a tiny bit of lettering that says “Tiny mouse click” in case anyone was wondering. I like at the top that I have little pictures of me and the computer screens. Sadly I never do it again. :E

Tom from “Handle with Care”

Tom from

I’ve been messing with some old characters and stories. Here I poke at Tom, the robot, from Handle With Care. Still making inroads on getting my guys to look better. Been forcing Mike to play a little of Resident Evil 4 here and there. So, I can watch Leon. I make a lot of inappropriate comments… strangely it’s been mostly about Ashley grabbing Leon’s ass when you turn the character too fast. Although, I wish they hadn’t kill that other hot guy. =]

Finished inking another page of “My Muse.” Right now that makes 11 pages. I have one more page left to ink that’s penciled and then it’s time to get back to penciling pages again.

There’s been a lot of discussion about a company I’ve work for recently… I’d like to state that I have never signed a contract with Tokyopop though I have seen one. I will now sleep I think. =_=
