Contest Winners

Edit: Whee, now that I’m not incredibly tired, some comments from me on the wining entries. =D

Yay, so the contest is over. Thanks so much for everyone who made art and wrote reviews. I feel this happy sense of love just like I use to back in the day when me and Mike were making Saiko and Lavender. When every now and then people would send us little letters letting us know that the weird crack baby comic we made was indeed making it’s ways into people’s hands. Once I started posting the comic to the internet it allowed a lot of the people who had stumbled on to our comic long ago to find us again and finish reading the comic or re-reading it. I’m glad that so many people have had that chance and I hope everyone has enjoyed all the art and more that were made for the contest. Thanks so much to everyone.

So without wibbling anymore here are the winners:

Art Contest Grande Prize winner: Vineris! Entry By Vineris

I really like how cute and adorable this idea for a Saiko and Lavender face off was done. I also liked how they made the hair on the characters look, it’s still the style I draw but much more three dimensional. The pastel colors give this picture a soft feel and the little faces Saiko makes are really funny. Saiko is so devious and sly. Hug hug hug.

3 Runner-up winners: Green_sweater! entry by Green Sweater I find this image really amusing. I thought it was very neat that they made Lavender an actual cat and Saiko’s expression here is perfect.

Daystorm! Entry by Daystorm I like the action and anger of this image. This really captures the feel of Lavender taking her frustration out on someone. I just know that either the person she’s attacking will be in trouble or her spell will go horribly wrong in some funny way.

Psychochris20! Entry By Psychochris20 I like that in this picture Saiko is catching the pop tart in her mouth. They definitely caught the personalities of the characters.

For the Review contest the grande prize winner is: SrednivashtarI like that this review was done in the style of a wacky advertisement much like the one I wish I could have come up with back in the day.
And the runner-up is: The-Chibi I like that they took the time to translate the review into another language, that was pretty cool.

I will be contacting the winners to figure out where to send their prizes. Thanks so much to everyone who’s been watching. =]

Again, I thank everyone who took the time to enter. Every entry made me happy when I received them. It was hard to pick the winners so I went with the ones I felt most captured the characters and the ones that made me smile the most.

Saiko and Lavender Contest!

Saiko and Lavender Contest

Contest closed! Whee, thanks everyone for entering. I really enjoyed looking at all the wonderful entries. Also if I missed your entry please let me know so I can add you to the list. Winners will be announced on Friday the 1st. =]

Yay, I live! The holidays almost killed me but I have survived! Every time it seemed like I needed to buy something, eat food, or check something, everything was closed.

So contest…

The Saiko and Lavender Webcomic is now complete and posted to the internet. YAY! So for this momentous occasion I will run a tiny contest with real prizes. Hopefully someone will enter so I don’t have to cry at night and give myself the prizes. =]

Here’s the info, there will be two different contests one for artists and one for all the other people that either aren’t artist or who hate drawing for other people. There will be prizes for both.

For the art contest, go to the Saiko and Lavender comic… it starts here or look at the comics if you own them (it could happen =D), draw a picture of whatever Saiko and Lavender character(s) you love, hate, enjoy torturing. Have them doing whatever you want… eating breakfast, destroying the world, attacking giant monsters, curling their handle bar mustaches, posing. The sky’s the limit, well, within reason. If you make terrible porn I will of course be amused… um and I will have to disqualify you for the prizes since I can’t display the winning entry. If you have an old piece of Saiko and Lavender art you did back at the dawn of time… cough, er… when the comic was first printed feel free to dust it off and send it in. You can enter as many times as you want but you can only win one of the prizes.

Prizes for most amusing Saiko and Lavender picture:

–Signed copy of Saiko and Lavender graphic novel
–Signed copy of the Spooktacular comic
–One-year subscription to DeviantArt or Livejournal
–Free 20″x30″ poster of any piece of my art or any piece of your art (from Kodakgallery, if you pick to get your own art though you’ll have to pay for shipping but if you want my art I’ll pay the shipping)
–A free signed sketch from me

Prizes for 3 runner-ups:

–Signed copy of Saiko and Lavender graphic novel
–Signed copy of the Spooktacular comic
–Free 3 month subscription to DeviantArt or 2 month subscription to Livejournal

Now for the non-art contest, this is a review contest. Go to the Saiko and Lavender comic and read however much you want. Link to the comic on your LJ, blog, journal and then review it however you wish, critique it, be nice, be mean, be weird, write it as a dear John letter, write it like the voices in Saiko’s head, make it a play, make it odd, but most of all make it interesting. You may include pages from the comic, or hell, make your own images, or shop the comic stuff to make funny stuff. Have fun.

I will then add you to list of entries.

This contest will run for 2 weeks from tomorrow so all entries must be in by midnight (roughly) of January, Sunday the 27th. Final decision and judgment will be up to me. You must be okay with me posting your image to LiveJournal, the webcomicsnation site and my own website, so that I can show off the winners. You will be fully credited and a link to your website/DA/LJ will be included. All prizes will be sent to you within 2 weeks of when the winners are announced, some prizes may be sent by email.

Good luck! Feel free to ask any questions you might have and or ask me to clarify anything. YAY! Hopefully someone will enter. =]

The computer! It taunts me to waste more time on the internet! My set up really does look like this, I’ve got two monitors hooked up to my little G4. One is a flat screen and the other is a CRT. I usually use the CRT only for color correction when I do comics for print so I’m mostly using the flat screen for everything else.

HPB stands for Half Blood Prince… HP stands for Harry Potter and LJ really does love me.

I do this a lot. I’ll write up some sort of comment or entry and then never post it. I like to think it makes the internet bearable but it causes me to not really interact that much. I end up not posting nice things either because I feel I sound silly or random or something. =[

Most of the time I just force myself to send it and sound like an idiot. The opinion stuff I tend to keep to myself though.

Saiko and Lavender, The webcomics begins!

So, it begins. I’ll be posting my comic Saiko and Lavender starting today. As a special for this month I’ll be posting roughly once a day give or take about 2 days. After that the comic will update once a week and I’ll start posting my new comic, which is still nameless. Ponders.

All the posting this month is so that there will be something for people to see. I was looking at updating at once or twice a week but even at twice a week it would take until December for the first issue to be up. So I just thought I’d run it this way instead.

I finally finished correcting and adjusting the Saiko and Lavender font. You can see it in the image above. It ended up not really looking all that different after all of that. LOL. I completely remade all of the letters so they were all the same size and them lined them all up and bent them using Illustrator’s SECRET path bender… the sneaky fuckers. Heh if I just spent a little time I could probably make a full Saiko and Lavender font.

I bought a webcomic plan at Webcomic Nation since the site offers a good plan and built in tools. Also I hoped that it would help to pull me out of my rut creating comics since I’ve just paid for a years worth of service and it would suck to not use it.

The temp version of my New Webcomic Site: Ghost Circle - Comics!

So far both of my old webcomic one-shots: “Return to Green Hollow” and “Handle with Care” are up. I’m planning to post “Saiko and Lavender” at some point but I wanted to run something new at the same time as S&L.

As of today, I have 3 completely finished pages and 2 penciled pages of this new project. I’m so happy to be moving forward on drawing that I could punch a midget. It’s sort of a revisiting of the home grown indy comic thing that I love (with other bits thrown in from all over). I’m sure it’ll be another freak baby of a comic. Yay! I hope it will entertain.

I’m not sure when the new stuff and “Saiko and Lavender” will start since I want to try to get a back log of pages so that hopefully there will be less hick ups when I start the updating.

I also hope to have new “Saiko and Lavender” comic pages as well but one thing at a time. =D
