I finally located the combo version of my first entry in the Udon Darkstalkers contest. This is the one that didn’t make it into the tribute book so I can post it for you all to see.

Even though I can’t show you the final version of the image that did make it into the tribute book I can show you a preview of it. In the form of my super rough sketch version that I drew to figure out what I wanted the image to look like. The final version is much cooler than this tiny thing.

I still can’t believe I thought doing a 5 character image with a giant sunflower and background was a good idea right before the deadline. =/

Cough, also there’s this image that I did before I did the Darkstalker stuff that i haven’t had any idea what to do with. My friend Sterling made a joke about this and I sort of ran with it… sorry Sterling. I’m sort of wondering if posting this isn’t sort of like showing up at the end of a party after everyone has already gone home. But what the hell…

Wooot! One of my entries made it into the new Darkstalkers tribute book that Udon is going to publish. I drew a few sketches of the characters and colored them as tests to figure out what I wanted to do for the final submission. Here’s the two I finished:

Adorable time is now. I really like Q-bee and Felica. I’m not sure why I like Q-bee… maybe it’s something about her stinger or the fact that she’s got a full body suit with fuzzy bits. Fuzz! The My Muse style is really good for making things cute. =D

I did a combo version of this image for my first submission because I wasn’t sure if I would finish the 5 character image that made it into the book. I turned in that image very close to the deadline. I’ll see if I can find the combo submission but I think it’s on my work computer.

Um, I should have been drawing something else and instead I ended up making this image of Skwisgaar. Which is kind of surprising cause the Dethklok guys have been causing me no end of grief when I’ve tried to draw them before. So, I don’t know why this image worked out so well.

The guitar is really rough right now. =/

I tried to draw Nathan Explosion yesterday and ended up with incredibly bad awkward failures. Leading me back to the fact that anime/manga/cartooning, ill prepares you to draw normal people. Ugh, and I’m looking at screen caps from the show even. Fiddles.

I tend to draw characters in shapes so it’s really odd to find I don’t have any even close to how these guys are drawn. I’m just going to have to learn some new face shapes, which will be great as I need to branch out on my guys a bit more then “hot teen dude” and “David Duchovny”…

So, I drew Jem again and went looking for the guitars that the guys in Dethklok play. I’m just going to leave this one here for now. I’ll get to coloring her in a bit.

Two things I wanted to note… she’s probably not wearing a bra and I fear drawing Pickles’ drum kit. I mean putting the frets on the guitars is annoying enough but oh god the drum kit… =/

Um, yeah… Have I mentioned that I love Metalocalypse. I love that show so much. I had been gearing up to make some fanart of it but then James and me were talking about funny cross overs and this just um, sort of happened.

This Jemocalypse took me two days to finish. It’s the fastest I’ve ever drawn and colored 5 characters and 2 logos. I think it was a huge help to have the Metaloclypse image ( you can find it here on AdultSwim.com ) to reference the poses from but I’m still surprised how well the whole thing works. Well, other then the fact that Jem and the Holograms only had 4 people until they introduced the drummer girl later in the series. From left to right the characters are: Shana, Aja, Jem, Raya, and Kimber. They are standing in for Murderface, Skwisgaar, Nathan, Pickles, and Toki.

I traced the logos in Photoshop with the path tool and also drew a version of the background to put behind them. I tried to use the same lighting scheme they used in the original Metalocalypse image with some tweaking for breasts and huge hair. I had to adjust some of the clothing and poses a little here and there.

I hope you guys like it, I posted it up as a wallpaper at 1280×960 since the characters are a little small otherwise. =D

Wheeee, I’ve started back up on “My Muse” though right now it’s mostly cleaning house. Which means I’m inking the 8-10 pages of pencils that I have. That’s going well so far, I’m about 3 pages in with the inking. I’m suppose to do roughly 2 pages a week but I’m going to try to work in some actual penciling if I can. That is if I don’t keep drawing INCREDIBLY COMPLEX fanart…

Of Jem even… well it’s mostly fanart of Jem, sort of. Kind of, it’s an odd image. I don’t think I’ve colored an image of 5 characters quite that fast before. I’ll post it up in a bit. When I’ve convinced myself it’s a good idea. =/ Or maybe after I’ve drawn some more images of them.

I made a version of the Jem logo for the image since there’s no good large version of the damn thing on the internets. Thankfully there are at least fairly clear versions of it but still. I had to trace the thing using paths in Photoshop. And why does that stupid star just HAVE to go under and over the damn letters. Meh, so yeah if anyone ever needed a small net version of the logo with bonus transparency for extra fun web page designing here’s it is:

And while I’m bitching, the screen caps that people have made for Jem suck balls. I know it came out originally back before DVDs existed but there’s been a DVD collection of the thing for a good 2 years already. I’m tempted to borrow the DVD’s from Shawnna and screen cap a bunch of episodes. Just to get the color palettes correct and have a few nice quality shots from the show.

Let’s see, I survived AnimeFest by heavily medicating my lingering cold that refused to stop churning out phlegm and by leaving the table to talk to Bigbigtruck, an awesome artist that would totally draw her hot guys for me if I gave her money. Hands money over for hot dudes. Also Chai tea… thank you Startbucks. We bailed on Sunday night due to slow sales and people sitting down in the walkway and screaming next to us. WHY? WHY? WHHHHHYYYYY?

I don’t remember anime cons being this tiring. San Diego wasn’t this bad and it’s a con of a gillion people crowded into a small small space. Oh and yes and I did get the red river of female shame… the tasty apple of cherry koolaid pants… the Aunt Floo… the some horrible sounding euphemism for blood shooting out of some personal part of myself, yada yada ya. =<

So, I got hot dudes drawn for me by Bigbigtruck and hopefully I did not infect her with my horrible snot churning cold… I’mohmygodsorryifso!!! And I um… sat behind Shawnna’s booth a whole bunch selling buttons to people and tried to not stab people in the eyes when they sit down in front of the walkway next to us to watch flash videos and scream. Oh the screaming! And DANCING! AND SCREAMING, I HATE YOU GOD. Cough, yay?

Edit: I also meet some wonderful people who didn’t scream in my ear or dance… I love you guys. Composes a song in your name.

In revenge for anime cons now being like daycare… I’m going to inflict Naruto fanart ala Diana’s horrible brain on you all. Ahem, BELIEVE IT!!!

The picture started as just Naruto’s face and developed Sasuke for easy taunting. I’m planing to color this someday when I’m not a lazy bastard that doesn’t make time to draw things for herself. I have way too many images that need to be finished sort of like this though less in the fanart vein. When finished this will surely be added to my print book of cute animals, girls and dudes that are too manly/gay/naked for the crowd currently going to anime cons…

Also I started posting to Y!Gallery… I predict mostly reposts and frustration. Did you know that they automatically delete people’s comments from your inbox and also delete updates to your watchlist if they are older then 100 or 20 days respectively? Wow! WOW! Lets back slowly and carefully away from the Y!G subject. =[ I’m sure I’ll have more to say when I’ve been posting there a little longer then 3 days.

Looks like the reshuffling of Tokyopop is starting and it appears that the reality of book cancelings and online versions is happening for many of the people I know/follow online. I keep poking around and looking at these goings on with interest. I had expected something like this and yet never ever expect it to actually happen. I’m use to the comic company that just lingers on and on and on slowly withering but gripping to life with brittle crusted fingers never gracefully exiting the stage until the final moments… sometimes becoming a zombie and lurching back to life type thing. This sudden shifting fast paced Tokyopop news relay has me a bit taken aback. Then again TP use to be Mixxzine until suddenly it wasn’t so I don’t know why I’m so surprised.

Before all this stuff started happening, I made some random “King City” fanart. “King City” is an awesome comic put out by Brandon Graham through Tokyopop. This was drawn last week. I don’t know why I doodled it or what the Owl is doing in that top hat or the tiny whale… but there it is. Originally I had the guy, Joe, holding the cat in an impossible way but then I punched me in the face and told myself to fix it, so now he might actually be holding that cat.

Oh boy, so I asked for help on ideas for the Christmas card thing and then end up getting an idea from Mom for one that I drew… Sorry guys, thanks for helping though. I will probably draw some of them for other years. Most of them were awesome suggestions. Thank you so much, you all are really the best. As for the card I did draw…

Thing that I should never do again:

–Art Nouveau
–Complex hair bits
–Complex shit in the backgrounds
–Art that has to be blown up to 11 x 15 to be inked
–Jingle bells
–Art nouveau (hiss)
–Sneaking in things like the fact that picture is based off of a Harry Potter fanfic where Draco is a Ravenclaw and dates Cho… Shhhh! Don’t tell anyone.
–Nagging idea to color this one in as time consumingly neat new coloring style as I can think of

Why do I make things hard for myself? Anyway picture!

Yay, now I think I should color it… hmm, ponders if I could get away with the Christmassy gradient instead of real colors… May show family and see if I can. Then I can take all the time I want coloring it up instead of worrying if it’ll be done before Christmas. =D
